American Football Conference · AFC North
The Pittsburgh Steelers were founded in 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they remain headquartered and play home games at Acrisure Stadium. The franchise is owned by Art Rooney II, with Omar Khan serving as general manager and Mike McCarthy as head coach. Patrick Graham coordinates the defense. The Steelers have maintained consistent competitiveness over the past decade and a half. Their 2010 campaign (12–4) carried them to the Super Bowl, and they reached the playoffs again in 2015, 2016, and 2017—the latter a 13–3 season. After a brief dip, the club went 12–4 in 2020 and has made the postseason in four consecutive years from 2021 through 2025, posting 10–7 records in each of the last three. The 2026 season is underway at 1–0. The current roster features T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, Jalen Ramsey, Patrick Queen, Joey Porter Jr., and DK Metcalf among its notable names, with Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington at tight end and Drew Allar and Aaron Rodgers among the quarterbacks.

“Though Howard now appears to be a lock for the 53-man roster”
“Couple McCarthy’s comments with general manager Omar Khan backing the possibility of keeping four, and it doesn’t sound like Rudolph is going anywhere.”
“The fact that Pittsburgh rested him suggests he will make the roster as its third tight end.”
“It is highly unlikely that seventh-round rookie Eli Heidenreich makes the roster, while 2025 third-round pick Kaleb Johnson also appears to be a likely cut.”
“DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Roman Wilson, Germie Bernard, Ben Skowronek and Kaden Wetjen have felt like the six wideouts Pittsburgh will keep since day one”

“Beyond that, Rudolph's performance this summer also merits a spot on the 53-man roster.”
“By keeping all four, McCarthy will put himself in position to maximize this season's potential and starting the post-Rodgers era next season with two young quarterbacks under contract.”
“Howard is all but guaranteed to make the 53-man roster if he's healthy as one of Pittsburgh's four signal callers.”
“The fact that Pittsburgh rested him suggests he will make the roster as its third tight end.”
“It is highly unlikely that seventh-round rookie Eli Heidenreich makes the roster”
“it appears -- based on McCarthy's recent comments --- that his spot on Pittsburgh's 53-man roster is secure.”
“Rookie Drew Allar hasn't thoroughly outplayed Howard, but he's nonetheless done enough to seal his spot on the 53-man roster.”
“The expectation remains that Howard will remain a Steeler, but how he plays at the new Highmark Stadium might just determine whether or not he's still with the team by this time next week.”
“Carson Bruener is a lock to make the 53-man roster as a special teams ace”
“his roster status bears watching even if he's still incredibly likely to earn a spot”
“Howard's poor play against the Jets should remove him from most teams' list of candidates they'd add during the waiver claim window. After that, adding him back to the practice squad should be easy, and it'd be even more surprising than keeping four QBs if he chose to sign elsewhere instead of Pittsburgh.”
“they have already decided they are keeping their two young quarterbacks, Will Howard and Drew Allar.”

“"I can't imagine them not keeping Mason Rudolph," Dulac said.”
“Dulac stated that he thinks Pittsburgh will carry four quarterbacks on its 53-man roster this year ... Dulac thinks the latter would stick around with the Steelers regardless in 2026”
“At this point, it's nearly impossible to foresee a world where Pittsburgh doesn't include Spears-Jennings on its 53-man roster.”
“Tonyan's stock has been pointing upwards for some time, and he appears to have sealed his fate with four catches for 61 yards against his former team in the preseason opener.”
“A hybrid fullback-tight end, Nowakowski cemented himself as a consistent piece of Pittsburgh's offense heading into the regular season.”
“Veteran Steelers beat reporter Mark Kaboly took things a step further, writing over the weekend that “Rudolph isn’t getting released, cut, traded, or put on the practice squad. Full stop.””
“So, if Rudolph isn’t moved and Allar, the No. 76 overall pick back in April, isn’t going anywhere, then it comes down to whether Howard can show enough during the preseason to win a roster spot.”
“That leaves Allar, an almost sure bet to make the team, and Howard fighting for QB3 honors.”
“The third-round pick is a lock to make the 53-man roster as the No. 3 quarterback, meaning he isn't facing the same type of pressure that Howard or even Rudolph are at the moment.”
“One can also assume that McCarthy would rather keep two young quarterbacks on the roster, which could very well lead to Rudolph being the odd man out.”
“I think he's a has a chance to be a practice squad guy for sure.”
“I would take the Steelers straight up. The line doesn't even matter to me in this game, just because of how well their defense performed in week one.”
“I'm taking Pittsburgh in this spot. Pittsburgh's defense looked pretty solid.”
“Give me the Steelers in a road upset. It's going to be close. 24-21 Steelers is what I'm going with.”
“I actually think Baker would fit perfectly in Pittsburgh with Mike McCarthy next year when Aaron Rodgers is on.”
“The Steelers Mackay Lemon, the wide receiver from USC... So they're gonna add Makaye Lemon, primarily a slot guy”
