Rams 24, Eagles 20: The Room Picked Right, and Four Pundits Called It Exactly

By Ben Garves

Los Angeles beat Philadelphia 24-20 in Week 4, and on this one the room wasn't close to split. Across the 28 graded calls this game settled — winner picks and score predictions going back to May — 25 pundits each had one voice counted, and 20 of them took the Rams to the five who took the Eagles. The field's average accuracy on the game worked out to 84, and the lean was right.

Four in five took the Rams on the road

The calls worth naming

Some of the Rams money came in early and came in confident. Richard Sherman, picking in early October, put it bluntly: "The Philadelphia Eagles are not expected to win this game. I don't expect them to win this game... I can't see a way they pull off a win." That's a road pick against the home team, which is what the site's skill number is built to reward — Sherman's call graded at 183 skill, far above the 0 baseline a coin-flip home-team default would have earned here. Danny Parkins was just as direct the day before kickoff: "I think Matt Stafford gets the job done... I'll happily lay the three, with the Rams in Philadelphia." Same 183 skill score.

On the score side, four pundits landed on the exact final number, 24-20: Dan Parr, Jared Dubin, Pamela Maldonado and Tyler Sullivan, who called it twice — once on September 30 and again October 1 — and nailed it both times. All four scored 100 accuracy with a missed-by of zero points on the margin.

Predicted margins vs. the final score

Beyond the exact hits, Jordan Dajani missed by two points on a 26-20 call, and John Breech and Jeremy Pargo were three points off with final-score guesses of 27-20 and 33-26. All of it on the right side of the result.

The misses

Not everyone who leaned Eagles was wrong by accident. Rich Eisen called it back on September 4: "And the Eagles get the first win over the Rams. Eagles. Week four." That graded at zero. Pete Prisco went with Eagles 30-27, missing the margin by seven points, and Gennaro Filice and Brooke Cersosimo also took Philadelphia on the score sheet, missing by six and seven points respectively. On the far end of the Rams picks that got the winner right but the math very wrong, Seth Walder had Rams 27-14, nine points off the actual margin.

Does this fit the pattern?

Eisen's miss isn't an outlier for him — it's closer to form. Across 468 graded calls on the site, he's an established voice at 59.36% overall accuracy, and specifically on game-outcome picks he sits at 63.46% over 79 graded calls. This one just adds to a long, middling ledger rather than breaking a streak.

Prisco's miss tells a similar story. He's thrown 80 graded calls our way, 57.25% accuracy overall, and on score predictions specifically he's at 59.22% — so an Eagles-win, wrong-margin call fits squarely inside his usual range rather than standing out as unusual.

On the other side, Sherman's 183-skill hit was well above his own typical output. His game-outcome accuracy sits at a solid 73.93% across 57 graded calls, but his overall missed-takes score in that category averages just 14.6 — meaning most of his correct picks have been closer to the expected outcome. This one, a road upset call that beat the baseline by a wide margin, was a better-than-usual result for him. Dan Parr's exact score, meanwhile, came from a thinner record — 16 graded calls overall, with a 74.15% accuracy mark on score predictions specifically — so one dead-on hit does real work for a small sample.

What else this touches

The Rams' win doesn't resolve much by itself, but it sits inside two diverging storylines. Across the calls the site has graded on Los Angeles this season, division-winner picks about the Rams have landed right only 11.1% of the time (18 graded), while division-winner calls on the Eagles have gone 22-for-22 at 100% — the field is far more settled on Philadelphia's place in its own division than on the Rams' place in theirs. Season win-total calls split similarly: Eagles projections are grading out at 92% accuracy so far against 50% for the Rams. Nothing in a single Week 4 game changes those, but it's the backdrop the next Rams-Eagles call gets made against.
